Thoughtful Thursday - Infinity and Karma

For christmas I received one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received from my brother-in-law Drew and his girlfriend Jacklyn. It was a Karma necklace from Dogearred Jewelry.

It inspired me to get myself something I wanted. This infinity necklace that my former roommate Lyndsay had. It is simple but with so much meaning. I got it to remind me of my dad. I gave one to my mom on the 1 year anniversary of my father's passing. And one to my friends Andy's mom on the 10 year anniversary of his passing. And then the same necklace has a Love one for weddings and I gave the same necklace to Karli (special meaning for her dad passing away as well) for Jen for wedding gifts.

These are dainty but meaningful reminders to wear everyday.

Life as I know it...

The last few weeks have been all consuming. It is bridal season and I wish I knew that all my hard work would pay off but hopefully it won't {well not pay me at least - I hope it works out for all of my brides :)} I would love a new job here in a month or two!!!

At the current moment I do not have any job applications out because I do not have time to do anything for myself right now.  Between meeting with brides 2-3 night a week after working all day, then train for about 90 minutes a day for the half marathon, and helping my mom remodel her house I have a full load. And in my free time I try to finish that to do list I keep talking about {which I am about a week behind schedule on!}

So this weekend we got away!
We went to Chicago for my friend Jen's Engagement party!
We left Friday morning at 8:30am with our friends Morgan and Drew. And we got to Chicago 9 HOURS LATER!!! We hit a snow storm. This trip should have taken about 5 hours. On top of that I got another cold :( and by Saturday night I had lost my voice completely!

On Saturday afternoon Jen and her fiance Roshan threw an engagement party in the burb of Chicago at the hotel where there wedding will be in September. It was nice to see Roshan's culture and meet all the new people! They sure do know how to party and I thought Catholics like to drink!

Anyway we got to see other friends as well {Erika and Paul, Megan and Mark, Shannon and Tyler!} And we stayed with Ms. Monica! And I finally got to meet her boyfriend Kyle, who I love and definitely approve :). I introduced myself as his new best friend and since I did not scare him off I think we have years of friendship ahead of us!

It was a great weekend. Nice to sleep 5 deep in a 1 bedroom apartment like college and it made me miss the sorority house days :(.

I need to make more time for weekends like this.

1/13/12 One Year without him

Friday was 1.13.12 and it was one year since my dad passed at about 7am.

I tried not to fill my entire day with tears.

So I hopped back on my treadmill and did 5 more miles {which lead to 18 miles in 2 days - this as a little too much to start my training so I had to take Saturday and Sunday off to get my body back where I could move again!}.

Then I went and got flowers for the grave, my mom, and my grandma.

Had to do a little work which I was trying to avoid!

Went to the grave - talked to dad and cried. A LOT!

Went to the monument place to approve and pay for the headstone.

Got some lunch.

Went to my grandma's and visited.

Got in a fight with the hubs...emotions were running high.

Relaxed and did nothing.

That pretty much almost sums up my entire weekend! I feel absolutely behind on my to do's, slightly mad at myself.

On Saturday I went with my mother for a few hours to work on her house renovation!  I will be posting more soon about that!

Sunday I cleaned and then took some photos for a very cute 6 month old baby! {New clients :) I am like a real photographer now}

Thoughtful Thursday = snow day = 13.1!!!

Today I had an actual SNOW DAY! I slept in late after my hubby told me at 7am it snowed and it was slick out. I knew my clients would cancel. Went back to bed and had some very sweet dreams about my dad. It was like I got to see him again. It was nice.

When I got up I ate. Did laundry. And thought well I better start this training with only 6 weeks and 3 days to go! Then I thought go big or go home - already at home so that is a horrible analogy!

I had to break it up into 3 legs back to back because
-there are no water stops
-my dogs had to potty
-I switched the laundry
- my treadmill only goes 90 minutes and tells you you are done
- and at mile 10 my treadmill almost kicked me off (literally) the belt was lose and I almost bit it hard!

I finished walking (some running but very little) in 212 minutes.
The race requires you finish in 210 minutes so the I do need to improve the running side of my game.

Half Marathon ??!!!??

So I took the plunge and signed up for a HALF MARATHON!

How?: Well in December we had a little girls drinking slumber party and about 2 am my friend Erin and I decided a Half Marathon was a good idea. She signed up. I did not. Surely I can get out of this?

Not exactly. She did not let me forget.

Why?: This was on my 2011 TO DO LIST.
Never happened... probably a good thing with how my year went!

But 2012 is here and now is as good of time to commit to something like this!

When?: February 26, 2012!
Where?: Disney World! Thats right it is the Disney Princess Half Marathon (I picked Ariel as my favorite princess!)

Well that gives me 6 weeks and 3 days to train.

PS I cannot run 1 mile right now!

So I am training for 5K :) hoping to run that 3 times that day!

I have 2 strategies/goals.

To run half of it.... {13.1 / 2 = 6.55}

To run 5k {3 miles}
walk 1 mile
run 5k {3 miles}
walk 1 mile
run 5k {3 miles}
walk 2 miles
DONE??? 9miles out of 13 is not bad..I would be fairly pleased!

We will see! Either way it is a bucket list and I know for sure I could walk it all for sure! I would like to run some though.

Next I would like to do a few more this year and improve my running/walking times!

10 years ago from January 7th a dear dear friend of mine {and many people} passed away, Andy Mann.

Andy was one of those happy people that was just a regular 17 year old guy that was friends with probably every single person in our school.

Andy and his sister Tammy were on their way home from school that day and we had been having some ice. Andy hit a patch of black ice and went off the road. He got out to help Tammy out of the car. He tripped. Fell. And grabbed a live wire. Andy passed away immediately.  He of course had a closed casket and as a teenager that was hard to process.

His death definitely brought our school full of lively kids down to earth. All of a sudden it was very real how quickly and innocently we could all be gone.

On Saturday, after the wedding show, I went to Andy's church with a few friends and his family to be together and just think about and celebrate Andy.

Tammy actually married my high school boyfriend, Jordan {who I have not seen in at least 8 years}. They have a 3 month old baby boy, Kellan, and boy was he a cutie. It was nice to see them so happy, they are both such amazing people!

After that my my friends Lindsay and Niki and I went out for sushi and then to the bars in my hometown {which I have not been to in at least a year!}. It was fun to kind of go home in a way on Saturday and walk down memory lane for 1 night!

Wedding Show Season! Part 2

Wednesday night was our first wedding show of the year! This weekend is the BIG one - we set up Friday night and have shows all day Saturday and Sunday!

Here are some pictures of our booth!
{Sorry for the crappy Iphone photos}

These are from Wednesday night:

Wedding Show Season

January is Wedding Show season in the wedding industry and boy have we been and will be quite busy!

We started the year this past Wednesday with a small show and Friday thru Sunday we had the BIG one!

Good news is this is my third wedding season and I am getting much better at it all.

Here are some poor pics from my iPhone.

So I have learned over the two years to limit my availability with my clients. The first year I did this  I would work all day and then meet clients all night and all weekend. Now I stack them and only do client meetings on certain days! I finally finally found the balance I was needing. Its been really freeing and I have not lost a client from it yet! I think they just think I am really really booked, which is a bonus too!

Flashback Friday - old trips with my dad!

I have been scanning and scanning and scanning! Some of the memories are so bittersweet!

Since my father was told 20 years early he had 1 year to live we took advantage of A LOT of vacations! My father and I took a few "last" vacations together.

In 2000 we went to California with Honda on a trip the shop won. This trip happened to be 2 months after his first liver transplant in April of 2000. Since he did not have all his strength back we rented a mustang for the coastal trip while everyone else was on motorcycles.

We first arrived in LA and then we drove up the coast to stops in San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and then to Laguna Seca Raceway - the meca of sports bike racing in the United States.
